A newly discovered invasive tick, most commonly found in Asia and known for cloning itself, spreading diseases in humans and sucking livestock dry has been discovered in the United States. Native to East Asia, the longhorn tick is known for spreading diseases in humans that can be fatal.
An Entomologist at the Hunterdon County Health Services in Flemington, New Jersey says he’s never seen anything quite like this new tick infestation on a pet sheep. In September of 2017, Tadhgh Rainey noticed the strange ticks after a farmer came into the facility covered in them. She said she was shearing her one sheep when she noticed they had covered her. According to Science News, when he and his colleague entered the sheep’s enclosure, “we almost immediately got covered in ticks,” he says. “I couldn’t believe this sheep was alive.” It was covered in hundreds, maybe thousands, of ticks.” The entire investigation sounds like something straight out of a horror movie:
“Investigation of the Hunterdon property in early October revealed a large number of ticks both on the sheep and throughout the paddock,” the scientists shared in a new study published in the Journal of Medical Entomology. “The ticks in the paddock were so numerous that they crawled on investigators’ pants soon after setting foot inside. The sheep was supporting hundreds of ticks, including all three active life stages (larva, nymph, adult). Although ticks were concentrated on the sheep’s ears and face, engorged ticks of all stages were readily found all over its body, including areas beneath the animal’s thick coat.” –Mother Nature Network
Rainey couldn’t identify the ticks swarming all over his body, so he sent several samples to labs all across the country. One went to Andrea Egizi, an entomologist at Rutgers School of Environmental and Biological Sciences in New Brunswick, N.J. When Egizi analyzed the DNA of the ticks she was shocked and horrified when the identification came back as Haemaphysalis longicornis, a native of East Asia, known as the “Longhorn Tick.”

Two B-52 heavy bombers flew “in the vicinity of the South China Sea,” US Pacific Air Forces said June 6.
While US Navy warships sometimes conduct “freedom of navigation” operations in the South China Sea as a way to challenge what Washington maintains are Beijing’s excessive maritime claims, flying the potentially nuclear-armed B-52s over the waterway represented an “escalation,” Business Insider reported Friday.
On Friday, the PLA-Navy practiced its responses to an aerial attack on islands in the South China Sea. Chinese forces targeted three unmanned aerial vehicles flying in formation “at varying heights and directions” as part of efforts to improve the force’s fighting ability, the South China Morning Post reported, citing a PLA Daily report.
On Friday, Chinese President Xi Jinping “stressed building an elite maritime force to resolutely accomplish various missions entrusted by the Party and the people” while visiting a navy outpost, Xinhua reports.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will open late Saturday a two-day regional security summit attended by Russia, Iran and other allies confronting rising tensions with the US over trade and Washington’s withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal.
Armored vans lined the streets of the coastal city of Qingdao as world leaders arrived Friday for the 18th annual summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), a regional security bloc led by China and Russia.
Its member states also include four ex-Soviet Central Asian republics, Pakistan and India. Iran is an observer member.
Authorities emptied an entire ocean-side swathe of the city — clearing out shopkeepers, residents and day-trippers to make way for Xi, his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.
Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also attend the meeting.

Guatemalan President Jimmy Morales, who arrived on Tuesday to take part in the ceremony, underlined in his comments not only the strength of ties between his country and Israel, but also a trilateral relationship with the US. One of the various reasons that have been given for Guatemala’s decision to open the embassy has to do with its desire to strengthen its ties with the US and take a step that will be looked upon favorably by President Donald Trump.
Morales noted that Guatemala, Israel and the US are “three friends that share friendship, courage and loyalty.”
Morales said that the decision to move the embassy will bring “great benefits” for Guatemalans, and that the new embassy will “further strengthen the link between our countries.”
“Guatemala wishes to strengthen strategic and cooperative alliances,” he said.
“Therefore, see our country as a gateway to the world. And you will wonder why I say a gateway to the world? Simply because Guatemala has had the courage to make courageous decisions, and many nations are seeing our actions and are deciding on their own based on our actions and decisions.”

China’s threat to Taiwan is ratcheting up fears of a third world war. A comment by the Chinese government saying they will “never tolerate Taiwanese independence” has prompted fears an all-out invasion is imminent.
The chilling threat was made by Premier Li Keqiang as top Chinese officials met in Beijing for the annual meeting of parliament on Monday. “We will never tolerate any separatist schemes or activities for Taiwan independence,” Li Keqiang said. He also stated that China will promote the peaceful growth of relations across the Taiwan Strait and “advance China’s peaceful reunification. We will remain firm in safeguarding China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will never tolerate any separatist schemes or activities for Taiwan independence.”
According to The Daily Star, China has been infuriated over plans made by the US to strengthen ties between Washington and Taipei. The plans would allow Taiwan bosses to enter the US “under respectful conditions” and meet their American counterparts. Officials had already told Taiwan on Friday the country would only get burnt if they relied on the US, adding to the warnings from state media about the risk of war.

(Own report) – The Munich Security Conference, which ended yesterday, was marked by appeals for “Europe” to be more willing to go to war and have a resolute EU “global projection of power.” In addition to a significant arms buildup, the EU needs a “common desire to actually use its military weight,” German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen admonished.
German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel warned that Europe’s future “projection of power” cannot “do without” military force. Currently, this is not yet possible without the involvement of NATO or US armed forces; however, cooperation with Washington should be “on a par” and “not as deputies.” In the foreseeable future, the EU will be able to buildup its arms to such an extent that it will no longer need US support.
Gabriel branded Russia and China – current “rivals” to the Western “system” – as “autocracies.”

Mosquitoes capable of spreading serious and potentially deadly diseases such as Zika, dengue and yellow fever could invade about three-quarters of mainland United States, the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have warned.
The CDC, a US federal agency, has previously warned that climate change could affect human health in many ways including increasing the number of “disease carriers such as mosquitoes and ticks”.
In a paper published in the Journal of Medical Entomology, it revealed maps showing areas where the habitat was suitable for two particular species of mosquito, Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus to survive.
A study found 71 per cent of counties in the 48 contiguous states were suitable for aegypti and 75 per cent could support albopictus.

North Korea has warned Australia against committing a “suicidal act” by supporting the US and South Korea should those countries attack Pyongyang.
This threat follows comments made by Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull condemning the North’s weapons development, saying in a statement to ABC, “North Korea has shown it has no regard for the welfare of its own population, no regard for the security and good relations with its neighbors and no regard for international law.”
He added, “We call on all countries to redouble their efforts, including through implementation of agreed UN Security Council resolutions, to bring North Korea to its senses and end its reckless and dangerous threats to the peace of our region and the world.”

YELLOWSTONE volcano has been struck by 1,400 earthquakes in recent weeks, leading to fears that the supervolcano is ready to blow and WIPE OUT life on Earth.
Seismic activity around the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, US, is not uncommon, but the heaviest swarm in half a decade has people very concerned.
Since June 12, there has been over 1,400 tremors in the region, and experts state that the swarm could go on for another month.
The Yellowstone Caldera supervolcano last erupted 70,000 years ago but a spike in seismic activity around the national park has unsettled nerves.
If the Wyoming volcano were to erupt it would kill an estimated 87,000 people immediately and make two-thirds of the USA immediately uninhabitable. The as the large spew of ash into the atmosphere would block out sunlight and directly affect life beneath it creating a “nuclear winter” and threatening ALL life on earth.
