RUSSIA has sparked fears of a potential war looming as thousands of troops simulated a deadly attack during huge military drills. Pictures from the Khmelyovka training ground show soldiers in a massive range of war scenarios, including detonating weapons on the battlefield.
Huge explosions are seen in some of the photos, blasting sand from the beach as fireball erupted.
Troops were seen testing out UR-77 Meteroit mine clearing systems, or working with an array of pistols and guns.
And flares filled the air with smoke as soldiers advanced on their targets under the cover of the thick black plumes.
The drills involved more than1,000 soldiers, including the engineer and sapper units of the Russian Navy’s Baltic Fleet.

The Israeli military is in the midst of its largest military exercise in nearly two decades, focusing on a potential war with Hezbollah.
Held in the north of the country, the roughly two-week drill – dubbed “The Light of Grain” – comes amid rising tension along the Lebanese-Israeli border, where Hezbollah, the Lebanese political party and militia, has maintained a presence for decades.
The drill will simulate “scenarios we’ll be facing in the next confrontation with Hezbollah,” an Israeli defense source told Agence France-Presse.
Tens of thousands of soldiers from multiple branches of the Israeli Defense Forces – including the air force, navy, ground units, intelligence, and cyber command – are set to participate.
