An unnamed commander of the Iranian-backed Lebanese terrorist army Hezbollah insists it has 10,000 troops already in Syria prepared to take on Israel.
The Times of Israel newspaper reports the commander said:
“Hezbollah has over 10,000 fighters deployed in southern Syria. Hezbollah is an army of infantry, rockets, tanks, elite force. We are operating as we do in south Lebanon, but of course in a veiled manner.”
The report adds that the commander said fighters were based in areas surrounding the Golan Heights and that tunnels and military bases were being built for a possible confrontation with Israel.
Israel last fought a full-scare war with Hezbollah in 2006 in what is referred to as the Second Lebanon War, and ever since, tensions along the northern border have remained high. Hezbollah is believed to have an arsenal of 100,000 to 150,000 short-, medium- and long-range missiles, as well as a fighting force of roughly 50,000 soldiers.
